John Edward Van Tassel

John Edward Van Tassel, 85, of Natick, died on May 8, 2011 after a long illness. A US Army Veteran, Mr. Van Tassel was a Professor of Management at Boston College for 48 years.

A Triple Eagle, Mr. Van Tassel was a graduate of B.C. High School and Boston College and he received graduate degrees from Boston College, A.M., 1953, and Harvard, Ph.D., 1957. As computers evolved, he was instrumental in the installation of them at a number of educational institutions (including B.C.). In the 1960’s, he also developed a Management Decision Making Exercise simulation for management training, which is still in use today.

Mr. Van Tassel’s interests included model railroading, railroad history, music, computers and electronics, demographics and maps, and playing Cribbage and Bridge. He was a Life Member of the National Model Railroad Society.

Beloved husband of Joan M. (Barrett) Van Tassel. Son of the late John E. and Elisabeth (Lusteck) Van Tassel. Brother of Barbara Enagonio of Maryland and the late Elisabeth Van Tassel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, Milton on Friday, May 13 at 11:00AM. A visiting hour will be held on Friday, 9:30-10:30 at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. MILTON. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Wednesday, May 18 at 11:30AM.
