Obituary for Janet K. Farrington

Janet Kennedy Farrington passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, Sunday September 7, 2025. She was 78 years old.

Janet was born and raised with her older sister Jeanne Kennedy on Elton Road, Milton MA, to Harold Kennedy and Virginia Coleman. She graduated from Milton High School and worked as a professional secretary for the US Navy and several engineering and law firms in Boston. Some of her fondest memories included working as a waitress at the famous Anthony’s Pier 4. But her true passion was caring for infants and young children; she ran a successful in-home daycare in Milton, which was always bursting with life, laughs and great memories.

Along with her devoted husband Michael, they raised four children- Anthony, Ashley, Alexandra and Andrea- at 211 Hinckley Road. In 1993, they relocated to Duxbury. A few years later, they made their home in Marion and Mattapoisett from 1997-2019. Janet and her husband then moved to Pine Hills, Plymouth to be closer to their brothers and sisters. In her later years, Janet loved spending time in Naples, Florida, where she worked on her tan, tried every restaurant in town and reconnected with many friends.

Janet allowed her children many freedoms during their adolescent and high school years, monitoring the choices they made and was rewarded by their sensible decisions. Her husband of 50 years frequently commented that her parenting style directly resulted in the independent and accomplished adults they are today: Anthony Farrington of Quincy; Ashley Slattery and her husband Sam along with their two children, Seamus and Neave of West Palm Beach; Alex Cerilli and her husband Steve of Newport and Andrea Farrington of Cedar Grove. She is also survived by her older sister Jeanne who was a great comfort to her in the last years of her life.

She leaves behind many beloved friends from summers in Falmouth and Wing’s Neck Pocasset, cherished memories of years in Milton and her extended family. She will be deeply missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 29 St. Mary’s Road, Milton, MA Friday September 12 at 10:00 am. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Thursday 4-8 PM. Interment at Milton Cemetery will be private.

I feel so honored to have taken care of Jan for nearly the last year of her life. She was a wonderful, kind and intelligent woman. We became fast friends, going to lunch, appointments and sharing meals with her family. She touched my heart deeply and I send my sincere condolences and prayers to her husband Mike, Sister Jeanne and her immediate family whom I was fortunate to get to know. May God Rest her Soul. Paula Keith

I have many wonderful memories of Janet when she "babysat" for us when we were kids. I don't know how she stood us,but she was calm and we loved having het and Jeanne to stay with us when our parents went in vacation. She also gave me gorgeous hand-me- down clothing as a teenager. Very kind. I last saw her in Pine Hills several years ago. A wonderful memory. She was a lovely, funny, charming, and intelligent woman. Love from her cousus, Paula, Steve and Mike.

To the Farrington Family- We are so sad to read of your wife/Mom's passing. Janet was our daughter Molly's babysitter in 1992, and we loved her! I will always remember her warm personality, and relaxed and friendly manner. My husband and I felt lucky that Molly was in such good hands. She was proud of all of you. Feeling grateful that we knew her, Madeline & Peter Cahill (& Molly) Dorchester, MA

Janet gave me, a green and newly licensed realtor, an opportunity to make her home my first listing. It was a generous opportunity and I am forever grateful for that ~ she was a lot of fun. Rest in peace, Janet and sympathy to her husband and children. Mary M. Leahy
