Obituary for Jeanette C. McNamara

Jeanette C. (Gillis) McNamara, 84 of Brighton and formerly of Dorchester and Milton passed away on June 12, 2025.

Jeanette was born and raised in Fields Corner neighborhood of Dorchester. She was an employee of Gillette in South Boston until she took a break so she could raise her family, first in Dorchester and then moving to Milton where the McNamara family spent the next 11 years. Jeanette spent her working years as a home health aide where her kind, caring and nurturing spirit was a perfect fit.

Jeanette was a fan of music, especially Elvis Presley, seeing many of the popular acts during the 1950s and 1960s. She loved to travel, especially to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, to visit her extended family. Jeanette loved her family and enjoyed having us all together. She made all the gatherings an event with her cooking, from her multiple trays of lasagna, her pots of meatballs and sausages, chips and dips, and of course an extra cheesecake for her kids.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas V. McNamara.

Loving mother of Edward W. McNamara of Milton, Matthew T. McNamara of Roslindale, Joseph M. McNamara of Athol, Kathleen A. Scilla of Cleveland, OH and Rickerson Felix of Wilmington.

Grandmother of Annabel, Ashlyn and Adam (Edward and Jessica). Coraline and Elias (Matthew and Emily). Malcolm and Quinn (Joseph and Susan). Paxton and Travis (Rickerson and Jacqueline)

Sister of Donald Gillis of Hull, Allan Gillis of Brockton, Leo “Mickey” Gillis of Roslindale, Charles Gillis of Abington and the late Lorainne Prairie. Jeanette is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Gregory Church, 2223 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester on Friday June 20 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Thursday, June 19 from 4-8 PM. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear of Jeanette's passing. Haven't seen her in many years but when we were kids we use to love to see the family stop for a visit in their way through to Cape Breton. She was a lovely person. God Bless.
