Obituary for Jeanne M. Ferris

May 9, 2025

Jeanne M. Ferris (Laracy) passed away peacefully in her home in Milton on May 9, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her devoted husband, Eugene J. Ferris Jr., along with family and dear friends. Jeanne and Gene shared a beautiful 52-year marriage built on deep friendship and unwavering love.

Jeanne was the proud and loving mother of three sons: BG Eugene “Buddy” J. Ferris III and his wife Candice of Colorado Springs, CO; Michael P. Ferris and his wife Diane of Milton; and Sean W. Ferris and his wife Jillian of Scituate. She was a cherished Nana to seven grandchildren: Isabel Ferris, E. Joseph IV Ferris, Jack Ferris, Tess Ferris, Willa Ferris, Cole Ferris, and Teddy Ferris.

She was predeceased by her parents, William Laracy and Dorothy Graham; her sister, Noreen Laracy; her father-in-law, Eugene J. Ferris Sr.; her mother-in-law, Ann J. Ferris; and her brother-in-law, Neal Ferris.

Born and raised in Somerville, Jeanne graduated from Somerville High School and Bunker Hill Community College. She had a long and fulfilling career as an X-ray and Mammography Technologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Jeanne loved her work colleagues and dealing with patients.

She met her husband, Gene, 54 years ago at the Kenmore Club in Boston, where they were both working. They married in 1974 and remained best friends and true partners in life for every day of their 52 years together.

Jeanne and Gene shared a love of travel, exploring destinations across Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hawaii, the Florida Keys, South Carolina, Nashville, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., as well as frequent trips to snow country and Cape Cod, especially Falmouth, which held a special place in Jeanne’s heart.

Jeanne had an extraordinary ability to light up every room she entered with her radiant smile and positive spirit. She loved her work, treasured her many friends, and had a deep and enduring devotion to her boys and her grandchildren.

Gene and their sons would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Jeanne’s dear friends Susan Dole—whom she met in the first grade—and Joanie Traverse and Pat Grimes, for the care and comfort they provided Jeanne and the family during her final journey.

The family also extends sincere thanks to her care team at Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, including Dr. Anju Nohria, NP David Molway, and NP Abby Ciampa, as well as the compassionate nurses of Old Colony Palliative and Hospice Care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne’s memory may be made at The Dana-Farber Campaign “Defy Cancer” at https://defycancer.dana-farber.org .
