Obituary for John A. Kvicala

John A. Kvicala, 93, of Plymouth and Milton passed away in the way in which he lived, peacefully, Saturday December 31, 2022. John was the beloved son of the late Albert J. and Julia A. (Buckley) Kvicala and is survived by his brother, Albert Kvicala and his wife, Connie. Family was so important to John โ€“ and his life was full of the love of nieces and nephews โ€“ and their young ones. He is now reunited with many relatives including Erminia Kvicala and Anthony Pasquale. John always treasured children. He was a lifelong teacher โ€“ serving for a few years as the Rockport High School English teacher and then settling back in his hometown of Milton where he taught middle school for the remainder of his career. Poetry was his favorite โ€“ especially Robert Frost and Edgar Allan Poe. He learned the skill of teaching at Boston College and mastered it at Harvard University. John was a true artist โ€“ beyond written words, he was a singer. His voice added to the choruses of multiple churches including St. Agathaโ€™s in Milton, a menโ€™s choir in Boston and throughout the world in ElderHostel. He loved to travel. He also enjoyed painting โ€“ a hobby that he nurtured in his retirement. Among his other pastimes were attending BC football games with Albert and enjoying family dinners and get togethers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Agathaโ€™s Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton, Monday, January 9 at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited. A visiting hour will be held at the Church from 10-11 AM. Burial Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Johnโ€™s memory may go to Beacon Hospice/Amedisys Foundation at amedisys.com or you may make the check payable to Amedisys Foundation and mail it to: Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.

    I was so lucky to have Him for seventh grade English at MAC. Gentle,kind, firm, smart, so likable He had beautiful penmanship as I recall. Learned so much that still sticks with me. Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, we learned by heart, as Grammar, correct punctuation, spelling, how to diagram a sentence. All of it. Never spoke a mean word.     Mr. kvicala was the best teacher I ever had. My wife and I ran into him walking a number of years ago. We were able to tell him how much we appreciated his teaching. I recall him reading Evangeline to our class. I believe one of the reasons he was such a great teacher is because he truly loved all his students and we knew it. God bless him. Roy Stephen

    I had Mr Kvicala in 1960. He was one of my favorite teachers and the one who laid the foundation for my love of the written word. Those of us who were able to participate in his class were truly fortunate. He will be missed.

    I remember Mr. Kvicala fondly and keep many of his teachings with me to this day..... the beauty of poetry, how to write and deconstruct a sentence. He was a wonderful teacher. My condolences to his loved ones.

    To the family of Mr. Kvicala - Jack as he was known to his peers at Milton High School, was peerless. I know I speak for many long ago eighth grade students who mastered writing from his disciplined approach. I can honestly say that in my entire education career, Mr. Kvicala was the teacher who stood above all others. His family should know that long after we left Milton, many of us would always speak of him, and the mark he made on our lives. If there is a heaven, Mr. Kvicala is running the English Department.
