Obituary for John H. Traverse

John H. Traverse, 80, of Estero, FL, formerly of Braintree, died unexpectedly on January 9, 2026.

John was born on August 14, 1945, in Boston, a son of the late John W. Traverse and Rosetta T. (Doherty) Traverse.

John was a graduate of Boston English High School and Boston College. He then joined the family business, J.W. Traverse Insurance Agency. The company was founded by his parents in 1950 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and later relocated to Quincy and to Milton. John dedicated more than 40 years to the agency before retiring. The firm is still proudly operated today by his brother Paul and nephew Michael.

John was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Massachusetts. He enjoyed boating and fishing, especially for stripers in Plymouth. He was also a grower of some of the finest tomatoes and vegetables in the Braintree area.

John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Maureen P. Traverse of Estero, FL; his daughter, Meaghan M. Traverse and her husband, Christopher T. Cox of Annandale, VA; two grandchildren, John Cox and Maggie Cox; his brother, Paul Traverse and his wife Joan of Milton; his sister, Maureen Collins and her late husband John of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Tuesday June 23 from 10:30 - 11:30 followed by a graveside service at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Relatives and friends invited.
