John Robert Horgan, of Milton, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2025.

Loving husband of Winnie (Lloyd), devoted father of Christine of Greenwich, CT, and Amanda and her husband Rob Linsalata of Medford and grandfather of Kiran Raghunathan of Greenwich, CT. Beloved son of the late Frances and Barbara Horgan of Everett. Dear brother of Thomas Joseph Horgan and his wife Janice, Michael Horgan and the late Barbara Horgan, the late Mary Lou McCulloch and her surviving husband Dave.

John grew up in Everett and attended Boston College High School, Northeastern University, and later pursued a master’s degree at Suffolk University. A lifelong lover of math, he began his career working for the Department of Defense in Boston. In the 1980s, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and opened ChewChews Restaurant in Reading. He later owned Winslow’s, also in Reading, and opened On-Ah-Roll in Milton. Never one to sit still, he went on to work as a mail carrier in both Boston and Milton before retiring.

He loved his family and the New England Patriots fiercely—his daughters were his pride and joy. John had a special way with kids, tutoring in his 20s, coaching Milton Youth Softball in his 40s and 50s, and becoming a favorite uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. In later years, he enjoyed playing cards at the Milton Senior Center, cribbage with anyone willing (his favorite partners were Uncle Don and Spencer), reading, and teasing his “wonderful wife Winnie.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Elizabeth Church, 350 Reedsdale Road, Milton, Friday June 27 at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Thursday 4-7 PM.

John will be remembered for his sharp wit, intelligence, and colorful vocabulary by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s memory to the American Lung Association at Lung.org
