Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Zuccarini

Joseph “Joe” Zuccarini, 69, passed away on April 2, 2026, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with glioblastoma.

Born November 15, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joe was the beloved son of Mary O’Donnell Zuccarini and Joseph Zuccarini, and the eldest of six children. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack.

Joe’s family lived in Alexandria, Virginia, and Morris Plains, New Jersey, before settling in Medfield, Massachusetts. He attended Xaverian Brothers High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball.

At 15, Joe met Nancy Sullivan Zuccarini. They married in 1982, moved to Medfield in 1992, and built a life centered on love and resilience. While their journey was not without challenges, they always found their way back to each other. In the end, nothing defined their relationship more than the fierce love and unwavering devotion they shared—especially through Joe’s illness, with Nancy by his side every step of the way.

Joe was a devoted and proud father to Molly Bickerton and her husband, Stephen, and Max Zuccarini and his wife, Amanda Aditays. He was the cherished “Pop” to his beloved granddaughter, Charlotte Louise Bickerton, who brought him endless joy, and he eagerly awaited the arrival of Charlotte’s baby sister, this October.

Family was everything to Joe—the center of his world and the source of his greatest pride and happiness. He found joy in life’s simplest moments: time together, sunny days at the beach or pool, cooking, attending Molly and Max’s sporting events, working out, and creating traditions that he always made extra special.

Through their children’s involvement with the Pop Warner Vikings, Joe and Nancy found their “framily”—a cherished circle of lifelong friends who became an extension of their family, sharing countless memories and unwavering support through every stage of life.

Always impeccably dressed and perfectly coiffed, Joe had a bright, unmistakable smile—his famously white teeth making him nearly impossible to say no to. That same charm carried into his career as a luxury car salesman, where he built lasting relationships and friendships and, true to form, loved nothing more than making a deal.

Joe faced his illness with remarkable strength, determination, and unshakable optimism. After his diagnosis in February 2024, he fought bravely, never complaining or asking “why me.” Instead he used this time to create more memories with his loved ones that they will carry with them always.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Joe’s team at MGH for the exceptional care and precious time they made possible.

A private celebration of life will be held; those wishing to attend are welcome to reach out to the family.

For anyone who wishes to honor Joe, please consider a donation to brain cancer research in his memory: MGB Cancer Institute in support of Dr. Jorg Dietrich’s Brain Cancer Research Fund. And no matter the forecast, Joe would remind us all: “It’s going to burn off.”

Nancy and family, Steve and I send our sincerest condolences to you all. I know it's been a long time since we got together with you two but this pic is how I will always remember him. Unfortunately, I do know about some of your pain... I lost my only sister in 23 days after the same diagnosis back in 1997 and she was only 52. Joe must have battled hard and strong - backed by God's love and all of your family's support. We are thinking of you all with tears. RIP Joe. Cindy Dikun
