Obituary for Leonard Schneidman

Leonard "Len" Schneidman passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on March 29, 2023, after a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Len was a dedicated husband to his wife and the love of his life, Bridget, a devoted father to his beloved children Jon (wife Michele), Peter (wife Marie-Claire), Annie (husband Matt), and dog Gus, and an incredibly special grandfather to Charlie, Jane, Declan, and Callum and his grand-animals Lucky, Smokey, Juno, Jake, & Chester. He also leaves behind twin brother Melvin (wife Glenda), older sister Sheila, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and countless friends and colleagues from all phases of his life. Len was predeceased by his father Nathan Schneidman, mother Dorothy Fishner Schneidman, and dear first wife Cheryl Shapiro Schneidman. Len was born on January 20, 1941, in New York City. A graduate of Forest Hills High School, he attended Hobart College, where he was a member of the basketball team, Druid Society, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to graduate from Harvard Law School in 1965 before attending New York University Law School, where he received an LLM in Taxation. After clerking at the United States Tax Court, he embarked upon a long and distinguished career as an international tax attorney in both New York and Boston until his retirement in December 2022. Len had an incredible passion for life and loved traveling the world, listening to Bruce Springsteen on repeat, trips to Cape Cod and Adirondacks, fine men's fashion, and enjoying a delicious meal while dressed to the nines. The most important quality of Len was his kindness - once you met him, he won you over with his sense of humor, kind & bright eyes, and warm smile. He was taken too soon but will never leave our hearts - "Right now I'm in a different place, and though we seem apart, I'm closer than I ever was, I'm there inside your heart".

I met Len 28 years ago. His friendship and mentorship were so important to me. When my firm opened an office in Boston in 2006 we had the pleasure of having Len as one of our first colleagues. He brought his warmth and wisdom. I loved hearing stories about his children, but I really enjoyed hearing about his love for Bridget and the life they were building. My sympathies to all. I will miss him tremendously. Joan Arnold

Dear Bridget, Jon, Peter and Annie, I want you all to know how saddened my Mother, Len's older sister, Sheila and myself, Linda, are feeling. The times I had the pleasure to see you and my Uncle Lenard together, it was so clear the love and respect you had for each other. Unfortunately, my Mother is in no state to be present for the memorial. You are all in our hearts and prayers. Keep your family close for strength. We will be thinking of you all.

Bridget, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved husband. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Len was a respected colleague on Andersen's national tax team, and a friend. I remember how much he loved to eat lunch out at the Palms in Boston, Chicago or whatever city we found ourselves in at the same time. His presence at work will be greatly missed, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Bridget, So many conversations we shared over the years and Len was certainly one of the favorites topics. Even though I only met him briefly I feel honored to be able to have known him thru your eyes and heart. Sending love and prayers to you and the rest of the family. Debbie

Len was a Gem of a man! He enjoyed his children and their friends always. We met Len thru Annie many years ago. He and George loved taking Annie and Lizzie out for dinner - which I always thought was so sweet and a lovely memory to have. Always a Gentleman and also Len had a great sense of fun! He will be missed by many but never forgotten because he leaves all with many special memories. We love you Len❤️ Betsey and George
