Mae Ellen (Kelley)Wise born March 4th, 1939, In Northampton County Virginia.

She was the 6th child of the eight children born to Sereta Kelley and Ernest S. Kelley. As a young child Mae loved school and loved learning; math being her favorite subject. After graduating high school at age 16, she married her high school sweetheart Robert Wise, who Joined the Navy. At the age of 18 she relocated to Massachusetts to be with her husband, he was stationed on a Navy vessel in Boston. Shortly thereafter they started a family. Giving birth to a son who later died as an infant. Later they went on to have 9 more children. five boys and four girls who affectionately called her MomMae. As life progressed living in Boston, she became an educator with the Boston Public School system. After retiring from the Boston Public Schools, Mae worked alongside her daughter Sheila and opened a boutique called the Eclectic and later a boutique called Tati’s. MomMae did not just work there she was making and selling hats, as well as handmade jewelry that was always a hot item. Every year around Christmas MomMae would give her family gifts of fur hats, scarves, and bracelets that she made for them. While working at the Boutique she took care of her mother-in-law until her passing in 1986.

MomMae found a church home at Holy Tabernacle Church in Dorchester Massachusetts, following one of her brothers who was already a member of the church. For over thirty years Mae was a faithful, active, dedicated member of the church. Known as Mother Wise by her church family, she served withthe Willing Workers ministry, and as a missionary. She loved to bake and always supplied her beloved cakes for the many bake sales and events held at the church.

Mae loved her children, spoiled her grandchildren and great grandchildren with love and prayers. There wasn’t a day that you wouldn’t find her praying for one of her family members. She touched everyone she met and treated all as one of her own children. MomMae, nourished people around her with love, and with her faith in God, praying for anyone and everyone.

In the year of 2016 Mae was diagnosed with dementia that over time progressed to Alzheimer’s disease. Mae Ellen Wise completed her transition peacefully on June 20th, 2022, at the young age of 83; at 12:30 in the morning while in hospice care.

Mae was preceded by her parents Sereta and Ernest Kelley, son Robert Wise, sister Ethel Robinson, brother Cassell Kelley, brother Ernest Kelley, brother Rossley Kelley, brother Otha Collins and sister Sereta A. Wise. She leaves behind to celebrate her life; daughter Stephanie Van Loan of Boston Massachusetts, daughter Sheila Rowe of Boston Massachusetts, son Kwame Wise of Georgia, daughter Makeda Williams of Boston Massachusetts, son Salahaldin Wise of Randolph Massachusetts, son Robert H. Wise of Arizona, son Ernest Wise of Taunton Massachusetts, son Rynel Wise of Boston Massachusetts, daughter Yolanda Garraway of Commerce Georgia, daughter Aisha Davis of Connecticut, sister Barbara Singh of Brooklyn New York and sister Julia Becket of Accomack Virginia; over 30 grandchildren, and over 20 great grandchildren, daughter in-laws, son in-laws, a host of relatives, loved ones, and friends and children who adopted her into their hearts as MomMae.

Funeral Service Thursday, June 30, 2022, in the Holy Tabernacle Church, 70 Washington Street, Dorchester at 11 o’clock. Visiting hour 10 – 11am at the church. Interment Private.
