Obituary for Marie Carmen Novembre

Marie Carmen Novembre affectionately known as Canm, Mante Carmen, daughter of Corancia Daniel and Nacius Novembre, was born on May 13th, 1920, at Desvarieux, Mirebalais. She was the eldest of 6 children, a role that instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility and care for others. These qualities would later define the way she lived her life. Always putting family first and giving selflessly to those around her.

She spent her childhood and most of her adult years at Desvarieux, the community she proudly called home. She eventually relocated to Port-Au -Prince, where she lived until immigrating to the United States in the late 1990s.

She was the proud mother of 3 children whom she loved deeply. She could not read or write, but she believed deeply in the value of education. Determined to give her children a better life, she worked tirelessly and made countless sacrifices to ensure they received the opportunities she never had.

Canm te travay di. Se yon komèsant li te ye. Li te angaje l nan fè mache tout kote, ap brase lavi ya pou l te ka fè edikasyon pitit li yo.

Canm se te yon moun ki te konn resevwa moun lakay li. Lè yon moun vi n domi, lap ba w chanm li ak kabann li, epi li menm lap couche atè nan salon pou l domi.

Her home and heart were open to all. Canm was very generous and feeding others brought her joy. No matter when you visited, she would make sure you ate, whether she had little or plenty. No guest ever left her home hungry.

Canm had a strong and fearless personality. Bold and firm, she was never afraid to speak her mind or tell it like it was. If she had your back, she had it completely and without hesitation. She celebrated your joys as they were her own and stood beside you through life’s hardship and offering steadfast support when you needed it most. She loved and valued her extended family, always offering her support, encouragement, and affection.

Canm te renmen di ““fanmi se fanmi, le san apel le sa”. Canm te gen dlo pre, li te sansib anpi l, anpi l, sitou pou fanmi l.

Canm te yon fanm djanm, yon fanm vanyan, yon fanm mizè, yon fanm heureuse, li te gen fanm nan fanm li. Canm te gen gran lafwa nan BonDye. Li toujou di “BonDye pap kite m atè ya, Menm lè lap rele “Jezi, ala traka pou lave kay tè”

She never lost hope that life would get better and that her later years would bring greater joy and contentment. And yes, God honored her faith. She spent her later years surrounded by family, cherishing every gathering, whether large or small. She took great joy in spending times with relatives, maintaining close family ties, and celebrating life’s special moments. Vibrant and engaged, she attended baby christenings, First Communions, Weddings, and other family celebrations well into her early hundreds. Canm was dearly loved and cherished by her family and friends.

Canm was preceded in death by her 2 sisters and brother: Marie Altagrace, Hermance and Andre Novembre. She is survived by her three children: Charlemagne Gelin, Marie Jocelyn Novembre and Wilde Marseille also known as Pierre Alix. Her brothers: Joseph Novembre and Naces Novembre, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Canm spent her final days being lovingly cared for at home and passed away peacefully in her daughter’s arms, at her residence in Boston on Saturday, June 7th, 2026. Her kindness, generosity and great love have touched many lives, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We celebrate her life and honor her legacy and wisdom she shared as the beloved matriarch of our family.
