Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Rice, PhD

Mary Elizabeth Rice, PhD, age 90, formerly or Milton and Falmouth, MA, passed away on 4/9/26.

Mary was the daughter of Patrick and Helen (Meagher) Rice. She will be sadly missed by her nieces Maureen duCrest, Annie McKnight (Marty), and Kathleen Rice-McDonald and her husband Brian as well as her great nieces and nephews Morgan (Gus), Danny, Julia, Aidan, Cailei, and Patrick-Noel as well as her great, great niece Layla. She was also close to her dear friends Betsey and John Honey.

Mary was raised in Milton where she attended St. Gregory High School before going on to receive her undergraduate degree from Emmanuel College and her doctoral degree from Boston College. She devoted her professional life to teaching the children and young adults of Boston and she retired as a Professor at UMASS Boston before moving full-time to Falmouth. Mary enjoyed travelling, spending time with her family and socializing with her many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 29 St. Mary’s Road, Milton, Wednesday April 22nd at 11:30 AM. Family and friends invited. A visiting hour will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, April 22nd from 10-11 AM. Mary will be interred beside her parents at Milton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Jimmy Fund in the name of Brendan Rice.

    As a Neighborhood Falmouth volunteer, I had the pleasure of meeting Mary on two occasions. She was delightful, eminently resourceful and just an upbeat personality. She will be missed. With sincere condolences, Maureen Ellis.
