Obituary for Mary L. (Sullivan) O'Brien

Mary L. (Sullivan) O’Brien, 98, loving wife of the late Paul T. O’Brien passed away peacefully at her summer home April 22, 2023. Mary touched so many – she had strong circles of friends in South Boston where she grew up and started her family, in Wareham where the O’Brien family summered for over 60 years and in Milton where her 4 children were raised: Eugene O’Brien of Newton, Lawrence O’Brien of Upton, Robert O’Brien of Quincy and the late Paula Molinari (O’Brien) of Milton. She was the adored “Nana Mary” to cherished grandchildren – Michael, PJ, Gregory, Dan, Dylan, Chris, Alex, Lauren, Will, George and Nora and great grandchildren – Luca, Nico, Elia and Noa. – And loved by daughter in laws Wendy and Kathy and granddaughter in-laws Amanda, Alana, Rickey and Erica. Mary was a graduate of Regis College and worked at Boston City Hospital before she started her family. She lived a full life; filled with great conversations, hours of Jeopardy, lovely laughter and great wit. In her last years, she enjoyed thoughtful companionship and care from her loving son-in-law John Molinari. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of having known and loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Elizabeth Church, 350 Reedsdale Road, Milton, Friday April 28 at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Condolences

The entire Mead family would like to offer our condolences to the O'Brien family in light of the passing of your beloved Mary. Over the course of a six decade relationship between the Mead and O'Brien families at Hamilton Beach, we came to feel for her as one of our own. The deep friendship which began between Phil and Lilian Mead, and Paul and Mary O'Brien, in the 1960's, was extended over the years to include Jim and Pat Mead, Ann and Arther Lane, Dave and Phyllis Piscopo, and their subsequent generations. The Mead's through the years grew to know, love, and appreciate Mary as the loving bedrock of the O'Brien clan. She was the foundational core of an amazing American family. Fiercely loyal and giving, she was a friend like few ever find. Quick with a laugh and a smile, and always more interested in your life than her own, it was so very easy to be in her presence. God surely blessed the O'Briens with their own mother Mary. We know she is irreplaceable and we join you in your grief. May God share His Peace with the O'Brien family, and may the many memories of her love, for each of you, help assuage your grief in this time of loss.
