Obituary for Murdie Mae Henderson
Murdie Henderson, daughter of the late Fannie and Willie Howard, was born on November 10, 1937, in Opelika, AL. Murdie was one of nine children (three brothers and five sisters).
She attended E Street High School in Opelika, AL. Murdie moved to Boston, MA in 1958. She played a major role in moving her father, mother, and siblings to Boston, MA between 1960-1973. Murdie (Howard) and William Henderson joined in holy matrimony in 1961 and raised five children. Murdie retired from Raytheon Technologies. Murdie was a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury and their Willing Workers Club.
Murdie was a woman of many talents and passions, such as interior decorating. She was also a skilled DIY crafter, always working on home projects and creating thoughtful homemade gifts for loved ones. Above all, Murdie was an empathetic listener and a devoted mother known for her unwavering love for her children in which she showed support, kindness, and wisdom. She took it upon herself to take care of her mother, brother and sister during their long illness. Her children and those around her were blessed by her patience, love, and gentle guidance.
On May 16, 2025, Murdie joined in Heaven with parents, Willie and Fannie Howard; brothers, Charlie, Arthur, and Bobby Howard; and sisters, Ruth Dowdell, Mary Porter, and Lillie Williams.
Murdie leaves to cherish her memories five devoted children, Deborah Howard of McDonough, GA; Michael Howard of Los Angeles, CA; Denise Henderson of Brighton, MA; William Henderson, Jr. of Killeen, TX; and Sheila Umeh (Tony) of Milton, MA; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; Katie McCargo (sister) of Boston, MA; Min. Willie Mae Howard (sister) of Williamsburg, VA; (sisters-in-law) Jean Howard of Norwood, MA; and Yvonne Howard of Andover, MA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We celebrate her life, find joy in her memory, and carry her love in our hearts, FOREVER!
Funeral Home Service will be celebrated at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Friday May 30th at 11:00 AM. Family and friends invited. A visitation will be prior the service from 10-11 AM. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.
