Obituary for Philomena Keneavy

Philomena (Kearney) Keneavy, 83, of Milton passed away April 8, 2024.

Born in County Roscommon Ireland to the late Patrick and Kate (Griffin) Kearney, she was one of seven children. Philomena was always caring, nurturing, and loving. She would make tapioca pudding for her grandmother that lived with them and would hold her older sister Kathleen’s hand each day walking to school. In 1969 she moved to the United States with her close friends. Her nurturing spirit brought her to work with mentally and physically handicapped children.

In her late 30s Philomena met and fell in love with James Keneavy. After marrying, they spent the next 40 plus years working hard to always be able to share their love and faith with each other, in prayer groups, and most especially with children and animals. They shared many holidays with family creating beautiful lasting memories. She enjoyed delivering Meals-on-Wheels at Thanksgiving and working with the elderly at Milton Healthcare. Philomena and James loved to travel. One of her fondest memories was her honeymoon cruise to Bermuda. She lived a beautiful life.

Beloved wife of the late James Keneavy. Loving sister of Joanne Purcell of Franklin, Kathleen Tomaielly of Bonita Springs, FL, and the late Mary, Theresa, Kevin, and John. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 29 Saint Mary’s Road, Milton on Thursday April 11 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Interment at Milton Cemetery.

Philomena was always generous to the St. Jude’s Foundation. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org
