Obituary for Ruth Davis

Ruth Elizabeth Loving Davis (better known as Ruthie) passed from this life on Saturday, July 26, 2025 surrounded by love and joy after a year long battle with heart failure. Even in the end, Ruthie demonstrated grace and love including her last act of generosity, sharing an angelic smile with her youngest grandchild Daniel when he kissed her to say goodbye. Her smile was the last thing she shared before she took her last breath. Ruth was born June 24, 1952 and is preceded in death by her parents Jackson and Anne Loving.

Ruthie’s smile, more than that, her unmistakable laugh, positivity, and faith, were the gifts she generously shared with those around her. Her husband, Ikie, would say that his wife knew no strangers because even if she didn’t know who you were she made you feel like family. Ruthie leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and generosity.

Ruth attended the Boston Public School System and Jeremiah E. Burke High School. Afterwards she attended Barrington College where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education. Years into her teaching career working full- time and raising two boys, she went back to school and obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from Curry College. She retired from the Boston Public School System after 38 years of faithful service as a second-grade teacher. Ruth was an avid sports fan preferring to watch basketball and football on TV and of the two; football was her favorite.

As dedicated as she was to her family, Ruthie was an equally committed disciple of Jesus Christ. She served as secretary of the Massachusetts District Young People’s Council earlier in her faith walk. Later in life she dutifully read the announcements at Emmanuel Temple for several years.

One of Ruthie’s proudest moments was watching both her sons get baptized together in Jesus’ Name at the Faithful Church of Christ in Dorchester. She wanted nothing more than for her sons to develop their own personal relationship with Jesus and to God be praised, they have and are raising their children to do the same.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years Ikie Davis, Sr., Nottingham, NH; sister Natalie Loving, Dorchester, MA; sons: Charles Kenneth Botts, III (Rachel); Troy Jackson Botts; stepson Ikie Davis, Jr (Kristen); stepdaughter Danielle Gathers (Terrance); sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law and a great host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing will be held at Emmanuel Temple Church, 471 Warren Street, Dorchester on Saturday, August 9th from 10-11AM. Funeral Service will begin at 11AM. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery.

I'm sorry I could not be there in person to tell Ike how much Ruth loved going on cruises with you. I also would love to tell her two sons how proud of you both she was and how much she loved the fathers you grew up to become. Her laugh will always be a fond memory. Sincerely, Susan Leary former kindergarten teacher at the Sumner.

Ruth- I will never forget the day I first met you. You joined my group of friends for an ice cream a few years back and we all became instant friends. We started getting together for breakfasts and lunches on a regular basis, so much so that Ikie dubbed us "the Breakfast Club". I will never ever forget you. You were kind and generous and always fun. Rest in peace my dear friend. ❤️
